On March 21, 2025, VIOD successfully organized the Directors Talk #20 workshop, providing strategic perspectives on climate change governance in a context where the market, investors and shareholders increasingly place high demands on businesses regarding Sustainable Development (PTBV) and ESG.

Main topics discussed:
– The role of the Board of Directors in climate change governance
– The Board of Directors should take the lead in setting goals, integrating climate change governance into business strategy and monitoring implementation.
– Lessons from Southeast Asia: Mr. Simon CY Wong, Member of VIOD’s Professional Advisory Board, shared practical models from the region, emphasizing the organizational structure of the Board of Directors, the monitoring mechanism and support tools that the Board of Directors can apply.
– Discussion on practices in Vietnam: Pioneering businesses in many industries such as pharmaceuticals, transportation, and construction materials production discussed how to implement PTBV and ESG strategies, along with challenges and opportunities in responding to climate change.

Lessons learned:
– Climate governance is not only about risk management, but also an opportunity to improve competitiveness and attract green finance.
– Boards need to set the “tone at the top” when promoting climate change governance.
– Businesses need to promote commitment and climate change governance culture starting from the board of directors.
VIOD would like to thank the experts, Board members and business leaders for their participation. We will continue to accompany the business community in the upcoming Directors Talk series, contributing to improving the capacity of Corporate Governance associated with Sustainable Development and ESG in Vietnam!
