On October 8, 2025, FTSE Russell officially announced that Vietnam will be reclassified from Frontier to Secondary Emerging Market status, effective Monday, September 21, 2026, subject to an interim review in March 2026. This landmark milestone highlights Vietnam’s strong commitment to reforming and modernizing its capital market in alignment with global standards.

This recognition from FTSE Russell opens the door for stronger connections between Vietnam’s stock market and international capital flows. Along with these opportunities, this evolving landscape also calls for continued institutional reforms, legal framework enhancements, and modernization and digitalization of market infrastructure to achieve the nation’s long-term development goals.

As an active member of the market ecosystem, the Vietnam Institute of Directors (VIOD) remains committed to collaborating with regulators and the business community to promote transparent, effective, and sustainable governance, ensuring the successful completion of Vietnam’s reclassification by September 2026.
